Cafe Mozart Salzburg

Cafe Mozart Salzburg

The first thing I searched after I decided to go to Austria is the cafe. I want to try every cafe in Austria (without getting fat of course). It is not odd that Mozart’s face, name, music, and everything that related (or non-related) to him are being used to sell things since Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart. Mozart’s souvenir, Mozart’s bag, Mozart’s tea, Mozart’s chocolate, and so on. Cafe Mozart is not an exception to use his name to open a business.

Cafe Mozart is my first cafe in Austria, and I was expecting really high about it. From the food, the interior design, and the concept. But as soon as step inside, I was disappointed already. First of all, there is no music at all. Like literally you can only hear people chatting here and there. Mozart was the greatest musician for good sake! Can they at least put on his music? Second of all, it might be a bit biased, but the atmosphere inside doesn’t seem grandeur or lavish at all. It just gave me the impression of a very old cafe that is still running until this day (I forgot to take a picture the inside of the cafe). Lastly, I was quite disappointed with the service for the first 15-20 minutes, but probably because it was a busy day, and I didn’t see a lot of waiters on the floor. Our waiter, Hr. Alfred, was a very nice, friendly and fast waiter. Apart from the first 15 minutes, I didn’t wait too long until our orders to come out.

I ordered Sacher Torte (€ 3.70) and again, disappointed. They display the cakes in the fridge display (if that even the name, but you get the idea), and that is why the Sacher Torte was too dry, have a rough texture, and you can tell that it’s not fresh from the oven. The amount of sweetness is perfect, and it was actually not bad. I just hate to eat a not-moist cake, and Sacher Torte supposed to be spongy.

I ordered hot chocolate (€ 3.60). It was good after you walk along the cold street of Salzburg to warm your body. Sacher Torte and hot chocolate might be too chocolaty for someone, but not for me. It was a good combination. My friend ordered Baileys Cafe (€ 5.50). I didn’t try it, but she said it was good.

The dessert I recommend you to try, not because it’s delicious, but because it’s the typical Salzburg dish. Salzburg Nockerl (€ 12.50) is a soufflé made with egg yolk (you can really taste the egg), sugar, flour, and vanilla. It shaped like a mountain, and it symbolized the mountains surround Salzburg. The dish is very fluffy. When I try my first bite of Salzburg Nockerl, it feels like you’re eating a fluffy omelet because of the egg taste. It’s good with cranberries to avoid the egg taste. This portion is definitely for two people. If you eat it alone, get ready to feel nausea.

All in all, Cafe Mozart is an absolute place for tourist. I would say there’s nothing so special about this place. It’s just the place is really nearby the birthplace of Mozart and it’s located on the popular street of Salzburg, Getreidegasse.
