Where to Eat in Copenhagen

August 11, 2017
nyvahn copenhagen where to eat michellefranclee

I think it’s time for me to post this Where to Eat “series” about Copenhagen. If you’ve been following my blog, you probably knew that I was solo traveling for the first time to Copenhagen. There were many things to worry about as a first-timer solo traveler. One of them is where to eat in Copenhagen. I know it may seems like a very simple question, but if you think about it deeply (research-like depth), it’s endless type of worry. Starting from will I look weird if I eat alone in this restaurant or cafe or bar? Do they accept reservation for one? Which one is authentic Nordic cuisine? You get the idea, everything can be turned into worrisome matter.

Back to Nature in Copenhagen Botanical Garden

July 31, 2017
Copenhagen Botanical Garden

Not far from the bustling crowd is the Copenhagen Botanical Garden. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum had me surprise how beautiful their winter garden and had my hope high for Copenhagen Botanical Garden. Copenhagen Botanical Garden is part of University of Copenhagen and located in the centre of the city. I reached this place by foot and any kind of transportations can easily take you here. I’m a self-proclaimed nature lover and Copenhagen Botanical Garden is perfect for me.

Aamanns Deli Copenhagen

May 31, 2017

When in Copenhagen, you have to eat smørrebrød for sure. Like it must be on your first must-eat when you travel to Denmark. And if you happens to be in Copenhagen, I know the best place for smørrebrød (at least it’s the best for me). If you don’t know what is smørrebrød, then you haven’t read my blog post about Glyptoteket. And if Royal Smushi Cafe is specializing in smushi and Danish traditional cuisine, Aamanns Deli & Take Away is specializing in smørrebrød.

Royal Smushi Cafe Copenhagen

Royal Smushi Cafe Copenhagen

This cafe is hidden somewhere in the car-free shopping street, Strøget street. Royal Smushi Cafe is well-decorated from ceiling to floor. Based from their website they call themselves as a fairytale, funky baroque cafe specializing in Danish traditional cuisine. The cafe reminds me of Alice in Wonderland but with brighter atmosphere. Decided that Royal Smushi Cafe will be my last place to eat. I was about three and a half hours away from departing back to Switzerland (my so-called home based).

Breakfast at Union Kitchen Copenhagen

May 12, 2017
The Union Kitchen Copenhagen Denmark

The Union Kitchen Copenhagen is one of this comfy little restaurant nearby the Nyhavn. Not really sure what makes me attracted to this restaurant and went there, but I’m glad I did. I went to The Union Kitchen for breakfast around 9am and didn’t have any reservation. The restaurant is rather small and people were actually do reservation beforehand. The Union Kitchen was very packed at 9am and if you’re a group of 3 or more, definitely should reserve first. Since I was eating breakfast by myself, they somehow manage to nudge me in.

Brunchin’ Solo

I ordered the Brunch Plate from the menu. More about The Union Kitchen menu in here. From the Brunch Plate, I got boiled egg, small salad, hot smoked salmon, sausage, bacon, avocado, yoghurt with granola, pomegranate and maple syrup, mini croissant, cheese, fruit, bread & butter, and jam for 149 DKK. I also ordered truffle fries (69 DKK) that is so damn good and cappuccino that might understand your feeling at the time. The Brunch Plate might seems just a compilation of bits and pieces in a plate but it filled my tummy just about right.

6 Reasons Why I Travel to Penang as a Female Solo Traveler

November 30, 2018

It’s almost the end of year 2018 and I think it’s relevant for me to talk about one of my new year’s resolution. I’m not based in Switzerland anymore and an employee, hence my travel opportunities has been decreasing so much compare to when I was a university student. That doesn’t mean I’m not gonna travel though. One of my 2018 resolutions is to solo travel to a new country, with my own money. I’m happy to announce that I, a female solo traveler, checked that resolution right on my birthday, in August.

Where Did I Travel In 2017?

March 4, 2018
Kobe Travel Michelle-42

Basically, this is a Michelle’s 2017 travel in summary. I created so many memories in 2017 I still feel it’s such a surreal thing I went to four new countries. Each country that I visited has a special meaning, but the “first time” always feels extra special for me. There are other countries that I visited again just because I needed more memories from that place. Like Milan, I always try to come back every year when I was a university student.

I really want to share something that I truly enjoy and believe in. I always promote traveling and encourage people to travel more. So this blog post is basically me sharing to you guys my travel in 2017 to inspire you to travel more. Or start traveling. Or start planning. Whichever the steps you are in, it’s never too late to begin.

where to eat in porto

Warning: long post ahead! Oh and I also would like to give you a warning, for those who read this at night or when you’re hungry af, don’t blame me. I wrote this post after I ate breakfast so I’m fine. This post is about where to eat in Porto edition. I made one about Budapest and Copenhagen. This one is pretty much the same, except for the restaurants ofc (duh!). Let me tell you something first, I love everything about eating in Porto (and Portugal!). Everything is so fresh, especially the seafood. And cheap! (read this to know what I mean). Everything was affordable for a budget, (ex)student traveler. I enjoy both traveling and eating in Porto.
